RAJSHAHI, JUNE 04 (V7N)– Rajshahi is currently experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19, with 11 individuals testing positive for the virus in the past two days. Notably, four of those infected are doctors. On Monday, June 2, nine new cases were confirmed, following two positive cases on Sunday, June 1.
According to Professor Dr. Khandaker Md. Faisal Alam, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College, 15 samples were tested at the PCR lab of the Microbiology Department of Rajshahi Medical College on Monday, June 2, with nine returning positive results, including four doctors. The day prior, on Sunday, June 1, two individuals tested positive at the same PCR lab. One of these patients has been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital due to breathing difficulties, while the other positive cases are receiving treatment at home under medical advice.
Dr. Alam stated that the symptoms among all infected individuals are largely similar, including mild fever, cold, cough, and sore throat. He also noted that other family members of those who tested positive are exhibiting similar symptoms.
Currently, COVID-19 testing in Rajshahi is reportedly only conducted at the PCR lab of Rajshahi Medical College. The PCR lab of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital has been closed since last year.
Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Rajiul Karim acknowledged that he was not officially aware of the outbreak but had heard about it from journalists. He stated that a team would be dispatched tomorrow to investigate the matter.
