UKHIA, JUNE 10 (V7N) – Educational activities in the Rohingya refugee camps of Ukhia and Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, have been temporarily suspended. This decision was jointly announced on Tuesday, June 3, by UNICEF and Save the Children, communicated to UNHCR and NGOs implementing education projects funded by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
A joint notification from the Cox's Bazar Education Sector sent to the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) stated, "Due to unavoidable circumstances, it has been decided to close Rohingya camp-based education programs in Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. This decision will be effective immediately."
The notification further clarified that all children's education centers (learning centers) within the camps will remain closed until further notice. Information regarding the resumption of educational activities will be provided once the situation is deemed favorable.
While concerned parties express fears that this suspension will temporarily disrupt the education of thousands of children and students in the camps, the education sector has pledged to resume programs once conditions normalize.
These details were conveyed in a joint statement signed by Angela Carney, representative of UNICEF, and Md. Ghulam Mostafa, representative of Save the Children. They urged patience from all organizations, officials, teachers, students, and parents involved in the education sector.
