Bagerhat, July 2 (V7N) — Excitement is building in Morrelganj upazila of Bagerhat as the local unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) prepares for its upcoming biannual conference and council. Grassroots party activists are actively engaging in campaign activities to elect the next president, general secretary, and organizing secretary through direct voting by local members.

In the lead-up to the elections, candidates have begun visiting party workers door-to-door, seeking support. As part of this outreach, a campaign meeting was held on Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the Baroikhali Union Parishad field in support of presidential candidate FM Shamim Ahsan.

The meeting was presided over by Moazzem Hossain Talukder, Vice-President of Baroikhali Union BNP. FM Shamim Ahsan, former President of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and current Joint Convenor of Morrelganj Upazila BNP, attended as the chief guest.

Other speakers included Md. Khalilur Rahman, General Secretary of Baroikhali Union BNP; BNP leaders Abdus Shahid Molla, Lecturer Zakir Khan, Riaz Howlader, Riazul Rahman; GS Ripon, former Vice-President of Khulna Metropolitan Chhatra Dal; teacher Zahidul Islam; Ibrahim Farazi of the Swechchhasebak Dal; Jubo Dal leader Naim Hossain Liton, along with presidents and secretaries from all nine wards under the union.

Addressing the gathering, FM Shamim Ahsan stated, “I didn’t join politics for comfort or leisure. I have spent years facing false charges, imprisonment, and political harassment for the sake of this party. I’ve sacrificed time with my family, but never abandoned my fellow activists, especially in difficult times. I leave the decision to the grassroots. Choose who you believe will serve you best.”

The spirited campaign reflects growing political enthusiasm at the local level, as the BNP's internal democratic process moves forward with strong participation from party workers.
