Netrokona, August 13 (V7N) — Colleagues, friends, and family of slain Mobile Financial Services (MFS) worker Rizon Talukdar formed a human chain protest on Wednesday afternoon, demanding swift justice and exemplary punishment for those involved in his brutal murder.
The protest, held at 3 PM, was attended by Rizon’s coworkers and associates. Speakers included Dhrubo Jyoti Sarker, District Manager of bKash, Supervisor Russell Mia, and fellow MFS workers Zahid Hasan, Rezuan Mia, Manik Saha, Tirtha Sen, Ashraful Islam, and Sohraf, among others.
Terming the incident a reflection of growing insecurity for mobile money agents across the country, protesters expressed frustration over the lack of timely action in previous attacks. “Rizon's murder is not an isolated event. MFS workers are being targeted, and without strong legal action, these crimes continue,” one speaker said.
They demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Rizon's killers and called for the establishment of a special tribunal to investigate and prosecute all cases of attacks, harassment, and killings involving MFS workers.
Background of the Incident:
On Sunday morning, Rizon Talukdar left the bKash agent office in Netrokona town with Tk 12.5 lakh in cash. His phone became unreachable after 3 PM. That night, his family filed a general diary (GD) with Netrokona Model Police Station after failing to locate him.
Three days later, his body was recovered from a waterbody, bound hand and foot, confirming the community's worst fears.
Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Atpara Police Station, told the media that an inquest report has been prepared and the body has been identified. It has been sent to Netrokona Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Authorities say an investigation is ongoing.
