Rangamati, Aug 26 (V7N) – Following the tragic death of a young man in a road accident on Monday in Rangamati town, the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has taken immediate steps to improve safety infrastructure along the road in front of Baitush Sharaf and the adjacent petrol pump area.

On Monday morning, Executive Engineer of Rangamati Roads and Highways Division, Mr. Sabuj Chakma, visited the accident site and issued directives to his team for the urgent implementation of safety measures. These include installing rumble strips, zebra crossings, no-parking signs, and traffic signals on both sides of the road. Additionally, efforts will be made to clear and repair the occupied sidewalks to ensure pedestrian safety.

"Sunday's tragic accident has deeply affected me," Mr. Chakma stated during his visit. "This area is highly sensitive due to the nearby madrasa and the presence of truck terminal workers. The daily movement of schoolchildren and workers, combined with illegal occupation of sidewalks, has narrowed the road, increasing the risk of fatal accidents."

Recognizing the urgency of the issue, the Roads and Highways Division has prioritized immediate action. Mr. Chakma confirmed that instructions have already been given to the relevant officials for rapid execution of the plan.

He further announced that illegal encroachments along the sidewalks near the truck terminal area will be removed soon to facilitate safe and unobstructed movement for pedestrians.
