Rampal, Sept 15 (V7N) – In a milestone for environmental conservation, Kathamari village in Rampal upazila has been declared free of polythene and plastic, thanks to the tireless efforts of the youth-led group Youth for the Sundarbans. Through a series of multifaceted programs, the village has been transformed into an eco-friendly model, drawing the attention of both national and international organizations.
On Saturday, Naja Christina Maier, Program Manager of the German development agency Helvetas, visited the village to observe the progress. She examined the anti-plastic initiatives, met residents, and held extensive discussions with 15 women about the impact of the campaign on their lives. The women said the initiative not only improved their daily environment but also strengthened their confidence and social engagement.
Maier also visited households to witness alternative practices replacing plastic, community cleaning drives, and awareness campaigns led by local youth. She praised the active role of women and young people in sustaining the initiative. Later, during a formal meeting at the Union Parishad, she discussed ongoing activities, future sustainability goals, and the challenges of grassroots implementation with Youth for the Sundarbans members.
The donor representative lauded the project and advised developing long-term strategies and integrated approaches to ensure sustainable environmental protection.
