Cox’s Bazar, Jan 31 (V7N) — The current tourist season for St. Martin’s Island officially came to an end on Saturday, with no tourist vessels set to operate on the Cox’s Bazar–St. Martin’s water route from February 1.

According to authorities, if conditions remain favorable, tourists will be able to visit the country’s only coral island again during the next tourist season.

The government has imposed restrictions on tourist movement to St. Martin’s Island since 2023 as part of efforts to protect the island’s fragile environment and biodiversity.

Under the government’s guidelines and prescribed regulations, January 31 was the final day for tourist travel to the island during this season. Following this deadline, all tourism-related activities on the island will remain suspended.

Officials said the seasonal closure is necessary to ensure environmental balance and conserve marine life, coral reefs, and the island’s overall ecological health.
