Ukhia (Cox’s Bazar), Feb 12 (V7N) - Voting is underway in a peaceful, orderly and festive atmosphere in Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia) constituency for the 13th National Parliament Election. Since early morning, a large number of male and female voters have been seen at polling centres across the upazila, with no reports of conflict or untoward incidents so far, according to election authorities.
Although polling officially began at 8:00 am, voters started gathering at centres beforehand. Long queues formed as soon as gates opened, with notable participation from women voters, many of whom arrived with family members. Young and first-time voters were also seen enthusiastically taking part in the process.
A similar scene was observed in Rajapalong, Palangkhali, Jaliapalong, Haldiapalong and Ratnapalong unions. While some centres reported steady voting in a calm atmosphere, others witnessed extended lines of voters. Presiding officers and polling staff were seen carrying out their duties diligently. Ansar members maintained order inside polling stations, while police and other law enforcement agencies patrolled surrounding areas.
The administration has implemented strict and multi-layered security measures. Adequate law enforcement personnel have been deployed at each polling station, with additional surveillance at centres deemed important or sensitive. A striking force has been kept on standby to address any emergency, and officials are monitoring the situation round the clock.
During visits to polling stations, several voters expressed satisfaction with the environment. A female voter said she experienced no difficulties while casting her ballot, describing the atmosphere as orderly. An elderly voter said he felt encouraged to exercise his democratic right and praised the administration’s arrangements.
BNP candidate Shah Jahan Chowdhury, contesting with the paddy sheaf symbol, visited several centres in the morning. He urged voters to participate peacefully and said his party would accept the people’s verdict. He also instructed his supporters to maintain discipline and law and order.
Jamaat candidate Nur Ahmed Anwari, contesting with the scales symbol, similarly encouraged voters to cast their ballots without fear and called for calm and restraint among his supporters.
Assistant Returning Officer Rifat Asma expressed satisfaction with the overall situation, stating that voting was proceeding smoothly without reports of disorder. She added that voter turnout was satisfactory and that the administration remains on high alert.
According to upazila administration sources, security has been reinforced across Ukhia, with executive magistrates deployed alongside law enforcement personnel. Measures have also been taken to prevent the spread of rumours or misinformation.
Officials expressed hope that voting will continue peacefully throughout the day and conclude without incident, with results to be announced smoothly afterward. Overall, polling in Ukhia is progressing in a festive atmosphere marked by active voter participation and comprehensive security arrangements.
