Feb 17, (V7N) - The 127th birth anniversary of renowned Bengali poet Jibanananda Das was celebrated in a festive and emotional atmosphere on the banks of the Dhansiri River in Jhalakathi, recalling his immortal line about returning to Bengal’s serene landscape.
The day-long programme was held on Tuesday at the premises of the Jibanananda Das Sangharshala in Uttar Pingri village of Rajapur, beside the Dhansiri River, jointly organised by Kabita Chakra Jhalakathi and the Jibanananda Das Janma-Mriti Udjapan Parishad of Rajapur and Jhalakathi.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Momin Uddin attended the event as the chief guest, while Kabita Chakra General Secretary Md. Al Amin Baklai was present as the special guest. Rajapur Upazila Executive Officer Rifat Ara Maury presided over the programme and Journalist Club Vice-President Alamgir Sharif moderated the session.
Speakers at the discussion highlighted that Jibanananda Das holds a unique and irreplaceable position in Bengali poetry, as his literary works deeply portray the nature, history and psychological essence of rural Bengal. They noted that through his iconic poetry collection “Ruposi Bangla,” he elevated the natural beauty of Bengal to a distinctive place in world literature.
The event featured poetry recitations, essay presentations, life and works-based discussions and cultural performances, drawing enthusiastic participation from local writers, teachers, students and cultural activists, turning the Dhansiri riverbank into a vibrant cultural gathering.
Organisers said such commemorative programmes would continue in the future to promote the poet’s literary philosophy and aesthetics, adding that celebrating his birth anniversary in a memory-filled environment on the Dhansiri banks inspired deep emotion and cultural awareness among participants.
