In Kutubdia, due to the impact of Cyclone Remal, approximately half of the makeshift houses along with educational institutions have been destroyed.
On Monday morning (May 27), heavy rainfall and strong winds began suddenly, leading to reports of damage in various parts of the upazila. In Joar by the embankment, two people were injured due to the impact of the water waves.
The tin roof of the three-story building of Master Taleb Ullah Model School and College flew off due to the intense wind. The tin roof of the academic building of Boroghup Islamiya Madrasa also got blown away. Electricity supply has been disrupted in several areas since morning due to the breaking of electric poles.
According to Alton Chakma, Assistant Engineer of the Water Development Board Kutubdia Office, nearly three kilometers of embankments in the Ali Akbar Dale Union and Koiyarbail Union have been damaged due to the impact of Cyclone Remal.
It is learned from hospital sources that on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, two youths, Shahid (16) from Hukdar Para in Ali Akbar Dale Union and Habibur (26), son of Altaf from Teli Para, were injured in the cyclone and were brought to the hospital by local Red Crescent members. At that time, Dr. Biplab Barua admitted Shahid and provided primary treatment to Habib.
Jiaur Rahman, an implementation officer of the Upazila Development Project, said they have received information that partially 33 and fully 2 makeshift houses and educational institutions have been damaged due to the impact of Cyclone Remal in various places.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mainul Hossain Chowdhury stated that they have received reports of damage to 35 makeshift houses due to the heavy wind and rain so far. Further details are being collected to take necessary measures accordingly.
