June 3 (V7N Dhaka)- In Kalapara, Patuakhali, sewing machines have been distributed among distressed families with the aim of alternative livelihoods for rehabilitation after the cyclone Remal. 
 
On Monday (June 3) afternoon, in a formal ceremony held at the Upazila Parishad Milonayoton hall, this assistance was provided by Upazila Executive Officer Mr. Robiul Islam. Under the Change Project of the non-governmental development organization World Concern Bangladesh, sewing machines were provided to 16 women in distress in the unions of Neelganj, Mohipur, and Latachapali in the upazila.
 
Present at the distribution event were Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mr. Humayun Kabir, Assistant Director of CPi, Asadujjaman Khan, President of Kalapara Press Club Mr. Humayun Kabir, Freedom Fighter and Journalist Habibullah Rana, and Chairman of Neelganj Union Mr. Babul Mia. Sylvester Michael Madhu, Program Officer of World Concern Bangladesh, gave a congratulatory speech at the distribution event. 
 
World Concern Bangladesh Program Officer Payel Das Bala mentioned that due to the adverse effects of climate change and cyclone devastation, the people of Kalapara upazila are suffering disproportionately in their livelihoods. In response to the demands of 16 affected families, sewing machines were provided free of charge as part of alternative livelihoods rehabilitation. 
 
In addition, food assistance has already been distributed among 200 helpless families affected by the cyclone. He assured that their initiatives would continue uninterrupted.
