Noldanga, June 6(V7N)- In order to control the encroachment by illegal occupants, the campaign to clear the Noldanga embankment area has been suspended by the Water Development Board.
On Thursday, (June 6), morning, under the supervision of Naldanga municipality mayor Moniruzzaman, it was decided to suspend the campaign to clear illegal structures until July 1. Among them, it was agreed that the illegal occupants would bear the cost of removing their illegal structures as per a written agreement. According to the agreement, if the encroachers do not remove their illegal structures, further eviction campaigns will be conducted later, as informed by the executive engineer of the Nator Water Development Board.
It is learned that illegal occupants had built at least 40 structures, including houses and shops, on the land under the control of the Nator Water Development Board on the western side of the Noldanga bazaar in Naldanga upazila. The initiative to clear these illegal structures was taken by the Nator Water Development Board following complaints from some local residents.
Previously, notices were issued for the removal of these structures. However, after prolonged negotiations with local residents, it was decided to suspend the eviction campaign until Eid-ul-Adha. Mayor Moniruzzaman of Naldanga municipality stated that considering the demand of the people, discussions will be held with the executive engineer of the Nator Water Development Board to postpone the eviction campaign until July 1.
Rafiqul Alam Chowdhury, the executive engineer of the Nator Water Development Board, mentioned that at least 40 houses and shops were illegally constructed and occupied by encroachers on the land under the control of the Nator Water Development Board on the western side of the Noldanga bazaar.
Repeated notices were provided for the removal of these illegal structures. Subsequently, with the cooperation of the district administration and the assistance of the local police station and fire service, excavators were brought to the Noldanga bazaar area under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Ashiqur Rahman of Naldanga upazila land commission, to remove the encroached land behind the central mosque of Noldanga bazaar.
However, the encroachers created obstacles and demanded time until Eid-ul-Adha. Under the supervision of Mayor Moniruzzaman of Naldanga municipality, it was decided to suspend the eviction campaign until June 1.
Among them, it was agreed that the encroachers would remove the illegal structures at their own expense, as indicated by signing a government stamp. However, if these structures are not removed, an eviction campaign will be conducted after July 1.
