St. Martin June 9,(V7N)- All boats carrying passengers and food goods on St. Martin's route at Teknaf border in Cox's Bazar district are closed. Due to which the residents of Saintmartin area in food crisis. Residents of Saint Martin Island don’t have access to Teknaf for food.
Habibur Rahman Khan, a resident of Saint Martin Island told, Voice7 News, shot at the boats traveling to the island from the Myanmar side while passing through Naikshyongdia area at the end of Naf river estuary on the way from Teknaf to Saint Martin. Due to which people don't want to cross for fear of life. But the Myanmar BGP shot? No one could confirm whether it was fired by the rebels. When three boats were attacked in the last few days, the boat owners stopped the boat movement.
On Sunday (June 9), Chairman of St. Martin Union Parishad, Mujibur Rahman said Voice7 News that on the way to the island, all boats carrying passengers and goods from St. Martin-Teknaf have been stopped for the past 3 days due to firing from Myanmar on the boat from Naikhongdia bound for St. Martin. Because of which there is a shortage of daily essential food products. If not resolved, the situation of the islanders will be very critical. I hope that the government tries to solve the problem before it prolongs.
Teknaf upazila executive officer. Md Adnan Chowdhury said that we are in contact with the higher authorities in this regard. However, on an urgent basis, I am looking into whether it is possible to go to Saint Martin through the Bay of Bengal from Shahpari Island.
