It is to be noted that the ongoing operation in Sundarbans since May 31, 2016 ended on November 01, 2018 with the surrender of 284 members of a total of 27 forces.  Following this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared the Sundarbans free of pirates on November 1, 2018.  Currently, the surrendered pirates are rehabilitated and lead a normal life.  All other ordinary cases except sensational and serious crimes (murder and rape) filed against all surrendered pirates/forest bandits by the government continue to be treated sympathetically.

After surrendering under the instructions of the Prime Minister, out of 284 pirates, 86 members were given houses, 76 members were given grocery stores, 105 members were given cows and 16 members were given boats.  Such public welfare activities of RAB-8 will continue in the future as well.
