Pabna, July 13 (V7N)- Illegal structures near the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna, have been demolished. On Saturday, July 13, a joint operation led to the removal of 127 illegal constructions in the areas of Rooppur Mor and Green City.

Authorities had planned the removal of these illegal structures long ago to ensure the security of the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. Local businesses had been operating in these unauthorized buildings for an extended period. Despite repeated notices and public announcements urging the removal of these structures, they remained in place.

Consequently, a joint operation involving the Upazila administration, police, Roads and Highways Department, and the army was launched. During the operation, a total of 127 illegal structures, including shops and restaurants occupying both sides of the road, were demolished.

Eshwardi Upazila Executive Officer Subir Kumar Das, Additional Superintendent of Police of Eshwardi Circle Biplob Kumar Goswami, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahadat Hossain Khan, Eshwardi Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam, and Roads and Highways Department Sub-Divisional Engineer Sadiqur Rahman were present at the operation site.

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Subir Kumar Das informed Voice7 News, “Unauthorized structures, including hotels and shops, had been occupying the Roads and Highways Department’s land illegally. Repeated notices and public announcements were made to vacate these areas to ensure the overall safety of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. Since the occupiers ignored these notices, 127 illegal structures were demolished today.”

He further stated that the operation would continue, ensuring the removal of all illegal structures around the Rooppur project area in phases.
