Bogura, July 17 (V7N)- In Bogura Sherpur, clashes erupted between police and students opposing the quota system, resulting in at least 20 injuries, including journalists, police personnel, and students themselves.

The confrontation began around 11 AM and continued until 2 PM on Wednesday, causing a temporary halt to traffic on the Dhaka-Bogura highway. Additional police and RAB forces were deployed to maintain order. Social media reports indicated that various groups had notified their plans to support today's activities in solidarity with the ongoing nationwide anti-quota movement.

Earlier announcements had gathered students from multiple institutions near Sherpur Shahidi Aliya Madrasa at 11 AM, but police action forced them to relocate towards Hamchhapur, attempting to reach the bus stand. Police directed the students to disperse, resulting in disruptions along the highway.

Chants and slogans echoed in all directions. Sherpur Upazila Executive Officer Sumon Jihad, Bogura Sherpur Circle's Assistant Police Superintendent Sajib Shahreen, and the Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Thana were vigilant, urging demonstrators to clear the highway for public safety. The situation escalated when some students reportedly threw stones at police forces, prompting the use of rubber bullets, tear gas, and shotguns by law enforcement.

About 8 students, 2 pedestrians, 3 police officers, and 7 journalists sustained injuries during the incident, which was eventually brought under administrative control.
