Barguna, Aug 02 (V7N)- Defying the rain, a massive rally and sit-in were held in Barguna with banners and festoons bearing slogans like "Students are like a flower garden; you can pick the flowers, but how will you stop the spring?" The protest, organized by students and the public, took place at the central Sadarghat Mosque and Barguna Press Club areas.

Thousands participated in the rally, which traversed various streets of the city. Parents joined the students advocating for quota reform. By 2:30 PM, crowds gathered in front of Barguna Central Sadarghat Jame Masjid.

The anti-quota reform protesters, along with their supporters, blocked Sadar Road at the Barguna Press Club area, chanting slogans. Coordinators such as Muid Hasan, Mir Niloy, Jisan Akhtar Badon, Imam Hossain, Rashidul Islam Reshan, and Sajjad Hossain Ashik led the rally and called upon students, teachers, lawyers, doctors, intellectuals, cultural activists, media personnel, human rights workers, scholars, workers, and parents to participate. In response, thousands joined the protest, with a significant number of female students participating as well.

Security was heightened around the Barguna Press Club and key intersections, with heavy police presence. During the rally, the Navy patrolling nearby decided to move on when the students' protest intensified.

The area was filled with various slogans, including, "Fire is burning in the blood; the heart is ablaze," "Buying bullets with remittance money for a just cause," and "Quota reform has turned golden boys into victims," among others. The slogans also criticized the authorities for not allowing the reading of funeral prayers and demanded justice for the violence.

After a couple of hours of rally and sit-in, the protest concluded with a silent march to Barguna Government College, marking the end of the event.
