Barguna, Aug 24 (V7N) - Two separate lawsuits have been lodged concerning the vandalism and looting of the BNP office in the Old Market area of Amtali, Barguna. The complaints name several Awami League leaders, including the party president, general secretary, and various other members, totaling around 450 individuals.

The lawsuits were filed at Amtali Police Station on the night of Friday, August 23.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 5, around 12:30 PM, when Awami League activists allegedly attacked the BNP office during a government shutdown.

In the first lawsuit, filed by Md. Soaibul Islam, convener of the district student wing, on behalf of Tuhin Mirdha, the Amtali Upazila BNP member secretary, 55 individuals are named with an additional 150-200 unidentified persons listed. The second lawsuit, filed by Md. Zakir Hossain, the municipal youth wing convener, on behalf of former BNP president Md. Jalal Uddin Fakir, names 38 individuals and includes 100-200 unidentified persons.

Prominent accused individuals include Awami League President and former Mayor Md. Moazzem Hossain Khan, former Mayor and Awami League Vice President Nazmul Ahsan Nannu, and several former Union Parishad Chairmen.

The complaints allege that during a blockade program on August 5, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations attacked the BNP office with weapons such as machetes, crowbars, iron rods, and sticks, causing extensive damage and theft.

It is noted that the BNP in Amtali is currently split into two factions, each conducting separate activities. One faction is led by the current member secretary Md. Tuhin Mirdha, while the other is led by former president Md. Jalal Uddin Fakir.
