Rajshahi, Aug 24 (V7N) - Water levels in the Padma River have begun to rise again in Rajshahi, sparking new fears of potential flooding. This increase in water level has heightened the risk of flooding in areas along the riverbanks, leaving local residents in a state of concern.

Locals have expressed worries about the potential for flooding if the river’s water levels continue to climb. On August 17, the water level was at 16.54 centimeters. After a period of decrease, the water level started rising again on August 23, reaching 16.23 centimeters by 3 PM—a 4-centimeter increase in just 24 hours.

At present, the water level is 2.21 centimeters below the flood danger threshold. The flood danger level for the Padma River in Rajshahi is set at 18.50 centimeters, a level only exceeded once before in 2013. Since then, the river has not reached this critical level.

Enamul Haque, a gauge reader from the Rajshahi Water Development Board, noted that heavy rainfall in West Bengal has contributed to the rising water levels. However, he assured that there is no immediate threat of the water levels crossing the danger mark in the coming week.
