Pabna, Aug 31 (V7N) - The main road of Chatmohar Municipality in Pabna is riddled with numerous potholes. Although it is officially designated as a first-class municipality, residents are not receiving adequate services. The condition of the main road is especially problematic, creating significant issues for both pedestrians and drivers.
Even a light rainfall causes water to pool in the numerous potholes. This frequently leads to accidents, vehicle damage, and increased discomfort for both drivers and passengers. The former mayor has stated that a work order was issued to a contractor following a tender process, and work is expected to commence soon.
It is almost unrecognizable as a main road in a town due to its dilapidated state. Navigating through the many potholes is a major hassle. Nevertheless, thousands of people and vehicles are compelled to use this road daily. The poor state of this road has become a serious concern for Chatmohar Municipality residents. Despite being a main road, it has not seen any improvements in nearly a decade.
The stretch of road from Chatmohar Thana Intersection to New Market Jardi's Intersection, approximately two kilometers long, is plagued by severe issues. The entire road is covered with numerous potholes, making travel extremely difficult for both pedestrians and drivers. After even a small amount of rain, the road becomes waterlogged. The inability to see the potholes often results in accidents. Vehicles are damaged, and people face difficulties, especially when trying to transport emergency patients to hospitals. The long-standing lack of repairs has left residents frustrated.
Resident Roni Roy told Voice7 News, “Despite being labeled a first-class municipality, there is no real improvement. The main road is so damaged that traveling on it is a challenge. There is no development or repair work being done.” Another resident, Abdul Mannan Polash, added, “We hoped for change when we elected the mayor, but that hope has not materialized. The road is nearly impassable when it rains, and accidents happen frequently.”
Abdul Karim, a hotel owner, remarked to Voice7 News, “The section of the road in front of my hotel is the worst. It gets flooded when it rains, causing significant issues for children traveling to school. There has been no development over the past decade. We urgently need the road repaired.”
Auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Majid told Voice7 News, “I am reluctant to drive on this road. Each trip leaves me with joint pain, and my vehicle is constantly breaking down. The earnings from three days of work are often spent on repairs.”
In response, former mayor Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Sakho informed Voice7 News, “While I was in office, the tender was completed, and a work order was given to the contractor. The work was supposed to start soon but was delayed due to unforeseen national issues. I expect that work will begin once the rains have ended.”
It should be noted that Chatmohar Municipality, established in 1997, was upgraded to a first-class municipality in 2018. The total population is around 20,000, with 12,238 voters. The municipality has 23.975 kilometers of paved roads.
