Feni, Sep 08 (V7N) - Following recent flooding, the rural roads in three unions and the municipality of Parshuram have suffered significant damage, rendering them impassable. Despite these challenges, local residents have been actively involved in repairing the roads through volunteer work.

Reports indicate that the cemetery road connecting Melaghore, DM Saheb Nagar, Mirzanganj, and Orangamatia villages in Mirzanganj Union has been completely destroyed by the floods. Starting from Sunday morning, hundreds of villagers from these areas began rebuilding the road using volunteer labor. They pooled their resources to hire an excavator, which was used to clear soil from the road's edges. Despite the sweltering heat, the villagers worked diligently to restore the road surface. Among those who visited to offer support were Md. Emdad Hossain, Joint Secretary of the Feni District Lawyers' Association and President of the Upazila Citizens' Forum, former Mirzanganj Union Chairman Maulana Nur Mohammad, and Shariful Islam, President of the Feni City Branch of the Chhatra Shibir, along with other local leaders.

Tajul Islam, a teacher at Mirzanganj Government Primary School and a local resident, stated, "The road to our cemetery has been severely damaged by the flood. Currently, the villagers are working hard to make it usable again."

In another area, residents of Jamiyargaon and Bagmara villages in the Box Mahmud Union have been repairing a one-kilometer stretch of Rajendra Baidya Road through voluntary efforts. Since Friday, the villagers have been filling in the road with soil and laying bricks. They are also constructing a 10-meter-long culvert in the road's center to manage water flow, with the project costing Tk 60 thousands. People of all ages, from the elderly to children and youths, are participating in the repair work.

Saiful Islam, a resident of Jamiyargaon and Senior Regional Sales Manager at Padma LPG Limited, noted, "The villagers of Jamiyargaon and Bagmara are repairing the road with voluntary labor. Many residents and acquaintances have provided financial support. Previously, villagers repaired the Parshuram-Subar Bazar Road, West Saheb Nagar Road, and Fakir's Khil, and also built a bridge in Joychandpur village through similar voluntary efforts."
