Barguna, Sep 15 (V7N) - In Barguna, approximately 250 fishermen aboard 23 fishing vessels are unaccounted for due to turbulent conditions at sea caused by a low-pressure system. The Barguna District Fishermen's Trawler Owners Association has yet to provide updates on their status.
 
Golam Mustafa Chowdhury, President of the association, confirmed the situation on Saturday evening. He explained that adverse weather from a low-pressure system has made the Bay of Bengal extremely rough. Fishermen had ventured into deep waters with supplies for fishing after a previous low-pressure system had passed. However, the recent weather conditions have made communication impossible and no contact has been established with the missing vessels.
 
Returning fishermen reported severe waves and operational difficulties. Power outages and network failures have further hampered efforts to reach the missing vessels. The association has mobilized 5-6 vessels for search and rescue once the weather permits. Initial fears suggest that the missing vessels may have capsized due to the rough seas.
 
The Coast Guard South Zone’s Patharghata Station reported that while some fishermen have been located, several vessels remain missing. The Coast Guard and naval ships are actively involved in the rescue efforts, with hopes of recovering the missing fishermen soon.
