Los Angeles, Oct 18 (V7N) - More than a dozen students fell ill after consuming an unknown substance at Walter Reed Middle School in Studio City on Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

Emergency responders were alerted to the medical incident around 10:30 a.m. local time. A total of 17 students, aged 12 to 13, were evaluated, with none reported to be in life-threatening condition. Two students were transported to a local hospital for further assessment, while the others were released to their parents or returned to school.

Principal Robyn Friedman confirmed that a group of students had ingested a "banned substance" in a message to the school community. "The Los Angeles School Police Department is currently investigating this incident, and we are actively working with our local health partners," she stated. Friedman urged parents to discuss the dangers of substance abuse with their children, emphasizing the harmful effects of controlled substances.

Simultaneously, emergency responders attended to another medical incident near 52nd Street Elementary School, approximately 15 miles south, where two individuals experienced an overdose. Both patients were taken to a hospital for evaluation but were not in life-threatening condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
