Prof. Mahbubul Matin, a teacher at Chittagong University (CU) in Bangladesh, lost his job due to an attempt to rape a pupil.
According to Mohammad Ali, a syndicate member, the CU made its decision at the 548th special syndicate meeting on Friday night.
"Mohammad Ali stated that the two committees that were established to look into the claim of sexual harassment discovered evidence against Prof. Matin, and members of the Syndicate suggested that he be fired."
On January 31, a female student in the university's Chemistry Department filed a complaint accusing Professor Matin of harassing her sexually while she was working on her thesis.
Later, university students organized a sit-in and protest campaign calling for the teacher's dismissal.
In addition, the student sent a formal grievance to the proctor. The accusation states that Prof. Matin attempted to rape the woman after bringing her to his room for academic support.
Subsequently, two investigative committees were established by the relevant authorities to examine the claim.
