Kushtia, February 26 (V7N) – Over 30 students were injured when a bus carrying students from Islamic University (IU) overturned into a paddy field beside the Kushtia-Khulna Highway at around 10:30 AM on Tuesday in the Britti-Para area of Kushtia.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, traveling from Kushtia city to the campus, lost control and flipped over into the field. Over 50 students were on board at the time. The injured students were immediately rushed to the university's medical center and Kushtia General Hospital.
Dr. Sirajul Islam, Chief Medical Officer at IU, stated, "One student has been referred to Kushtia General Hospital due to serious injuries, while the others are receiving primary treatment."
Mizanur Rahman, the In-Charge of IU's Security Cell, added, "We have sent the injured students to the university medical center. Initially, we estimate around thirty students have been injured."
Mehedi Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the IU Police Station, mentioned, "The accident seems to have occurred while the bus was attempting to overtake another vehicle."
Professor Dr. M. Ayakub Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Transport Administrator, said, "We are at the accident site. By Allah’s grace, no student has died, but all have sustained injuries to some degree."
