Dhaka, Mar 19 (V7N) - The government has approved the establishment of a new private university in Dhaka named “Grameen University.”

The institution will operate under Grameen Trust, founded by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.


On Monday, the Ministry of Education issued the approval letter to Md Ashraful Hasan, chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees.

With this addition, the total number of approved private universities in the country now stands at 116.

The university has been granted temporary approval under 22 conditions for its establishment and operation, as per the letter.

Among these conditions, the temporary approval will be valid for seven years.


The proposed university must comply with all provisions and regulations of the Private University Act, 2010.

It must have its own or rented premises covering at least 25,000 square feet.

Additionally, it must have a minimum of three faculties, each with at least two departments.

Furthermore, the university must maintain a reserved fund of at least Tk1.5 crore in any scheduled bank, among other requirements.
