Renowned figure in Bangladesh's climate policy landscape, Md Shamsuddoha, has been appointed as a part-time faculty member at the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of Dhaka University.

Shamsuddoha, recognized for his expertise in marine science, has gained global acclaim for his proactive contributions to national strategies and international negotiations on climate adaptation, loss and damage, and displacement and migration.

Having represented Bangladesh at the UNFCCC's Conference of the Parties (COPs) from 2009 to 2015, Shamsuddoha brings extensive experience to his new role. Currently serving as the chief executive of the Center for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD), he has also played a key role in international advocacy efforts, including his involvement as an international board member of the Climate Action Network (CAN).

Remaining actively engaged with various regional and global networks such as Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA), Act Alliance, and the Global Network on Disaster Reduction (GNDR), Shamsuddoha's contributions have significantly influenced policy discourse on climate-related issues.

Throughout his career, Shamsuddoha has authored numerous policy papers, articles, and research briefs covering diverse topics including trade and globalization, food security, disaster risk reduction, climate justice, and displacement and migration. His work has garnered widespread recognition from both national and international stakeholders, with many publications featured in esteemed international journals and books.

In his new capacity at IDMVS, Shamsuddoha will be teaching a Master's course on climate change and disaster risk reduction. Additionally, he will mentor students in conducting research projects focused on localized impacts of climate change and corresponding policy responses. His appointment is expected to enrich the academic environment at IDMVS and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in climate resilience and disaster management.
