Tangail, June 30 (V7N)- A seminar titled "Seasonal Impact of Heavy Metal Concentration on Commercially Important Marine Fish, Shrimps, and Crabs in the Bay of Bengal Coast and the Implications for Human Health Risk in Bangladesh" was held at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University. The seminar took place on Saturday, June 29, in the university's seminar room. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Farhad Hossain, inaugurated the seminar and delivered the keynote speech.
The seminar was presided over by Dr. Mir Md. Mozammel Haque, Professor of the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management. The special guests included the university's Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. A.R.M. Sulaiman, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Dr. Muhammad Omar Faruque, and Chairman of the ESRM Department, Professor Dr. A.S.M. Saifullah.
The main paper was presented by the principal investigator and the university's Treasurer, Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam. Other speakers included Professor Dr. Md. Aslam Ali from Bangladesh Agricultural University and former CSO of Cox's Bazar BFRI, Dr. M. Inam Ul Haque.
In their speeches, the speakers highlighted that marine pollution poses a threat to human health if marine fish become contaminated. They emphasized that 60% of Bangladesh's fish demand is met by marine fish. Therefore, to meet domestic needs and export requirements, it is crucial to address marine pollution and take necessary measures. The seminar was attended by teachers and students from the respective department.
