Tangail, Sep 04 (V7N) - Gopalpur's HB Abdus Salam Pintoo College has officially restored its original name after 18 years. Despite consistently achieving excellent exam results, the college had been denied MPO (Monthly Pay Order) and government support due to its association with BNP Vice Chairman and former Education Minister Abdus Salam Pintoo. This led to a prolonged period of neglect affecting teachers, staff, and underprivileged students.

Established in 1999 by BNP leader Advocate Abdus Salam Pintoo, who contributed approximately 1.5 million taka, the college gained government approval for instruction in 2001 and received academic recognition in 2003. It qualified for MPO in 2005 but faced delays after political instability and subsequent false charges against Pintoo. This period saw harassment from Awami League activists, including property damage and the misappropriation of funds intended for MPO.

Senior teacher Sultan Mahmood reported that Awami League members damaged valuable college property, sold materials, and obstructed staff. They also changed the college's name to Hadira-Vadudichar College and took control of the governing body, extorting money from employees under the guise of MPO processing, without delivering on their promises.

Local education advocate Humayun Kabir Talukdar noted that the college, which serves underprivileged students in a remote area, has faced political obstacles preventing its MPO inclusion for 15 years. He has called for the college to be promptly included in the MPO list.

Azahar Ali, a governing body member and BNP president in Hadira Union, confirmed the college’s high educational standards. Recently, local residents removed the Hadira-Vadudichar College sign and replaced it with the original HB Abdus Salam Pintoo College sign on the academic building. Acting Principal Siddiqur Rahman confirmed this restoration.
