Dhaka, Sep 19 (V7N) – The Dhaka University (DU) administration has announced the suspension of all political activities involving students, teachers, officers, and employees on campus until further notice.

The decision was taken during an emergency syndicate meeting held on Thursday evening at the Vice-Chancellor's Lounge in the university's administrative building. Of the 17 syndicate members, 15 participated in the meeting, which ran from 7:00 PM to 8:45 PM.

Several syndicate members confirmed the outcome, with one member, speaking on condition of anonymity, stating that after nearly two hours of discussion, the decision to ban politics on campus was finalized. An official announcement is expected on Friday.

Student coordinator Sarjis Alam also shared the development on Facebook, saying, "With this decision, let the journey toward creating a new Bangladesh begin today."

The move comes amid growing calls to end partisan politics on university campuses. During the quota reform movement, one of the key demands from students was the cessation of such activities. Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, protests against campus political affiliations have intensified.

The decision also follows two violent incidents that took place on Wednesday night. A young man suspected of theft was beaten to death at Fazlul Huq Hall (FH Hall), and a former Chhatra League leader was similarly killed at Jahangirnagar University. These events have sparked widespread condemnation and calls for action.

Four students from FH Hall have already been arrested in connection with the beating death at DU. Against this backdrop, the university's syndicate decided to take immediate steps by suspending all forms of political engagement on campus.
