Los Angeles, Jan 18, (V7N) - Sabrina Carpenter, the “Short n’ Sweet” pop star who took over the charts in 2024, is now one of the top contenders at the 2025 Grammy Awards with six nominations. Among her impressive nods are four in the Big Four categories: Album of the Year for Short n’ Sweet, Record of the Year for “Espresso,” Song of the Year for “Please Please Please,” and Best New Artist.
Despite her recent rise to fame, Carpenter’s journey to success has been long. The 25-year-old artist has been working in the entertainment industry for over a decade. "I’ve always been true to myself and believed in my work since I was young,” Carpenter shared with People magazine in January. “It’s always been about the small baby steps that you take over time to get you to this point."
Born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Carpenter was exposed to fame early on through her aunt, Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson. Carpenter began her career on YouTube at the age of 10, posting covers of Adele and Christina Aguilera. In 2009, she made it to the top three in “The Next Miley Cyrus Project,” a singing competition created by Miley Cyrus.
Carpenter’s acting career took off first, with roles in Law & Order: SVU and The Goodwin Games. She later became a Disney Channel star, playing Maya Hart on Girl Meets World, where she also performed the theme song. Her time at Disney led to a record deal with Hollywood Records and the release of her debut EP Can't Blame a Girl for Trying in 2014.
Over the years, Carpenter released several albums, including Eyes Wide Open and Evolution. While some singles like “Almost Love” and “Nonsense” were well-received, it wasn’t until 2024’s Short n’ Sweet that she reached true chart dominance.
Her album’s lead single, “Espresso,” topped the Billboard Hot 100, and follow-up hits “Please Please Please” and “Taste” also performed exceptionally well. Carpenter made history as the first artist since The Beatles to have her first three hits in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week.
“I’m just happy to see my songs connect with so many people from all walks of life,” Carpenter said. “That’s why I love to write songs.”
The 2025 Grammy Awards, set for February 2 in Los Angeles, will see Carpenter competing for six awards, including Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet. She will face tough competition in the Best New Artist category, with nominees like Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, RAYE, and Doechii.
Carpenter’s rise to stardom is a testament to her dedication and talent, and the Grammy nods are just the latest chapter in her already impressive career.
