Dhaka, Sep 14 (V7N) – The body of legendary folk singer Farida Parveen will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at around 10:30 am today (Sunday), where it will remain for an hour to allow people from all walks of life to pay their final respects.

According to family sources, her first funeral prayer will be held at the Central Jama Mosque of Dhaka University around 12 noon. Later, her body will be taken to Kushtia, where she will be buried beside her parents as per her last wish.

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Cultural Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and leaders of various political parties have expressed deep grief over her passing.

Parveen, popularly known as “Lalonkanya”, breathed her last at 10:15 pm on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. She was 73 years old.

The iconic singer had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time and required dialysis twice a week. On September 2, she was admitted to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali for dialysis, where her condition gradually deteriorated. She was later shifted to the ICU and placed on ventilation, but despite all efforts, she passed away.

Born on December 31, 1954, in Singra, Natore, Farida Parveen began her professional music career in 1968 at the age of 14. Over a span of more than five decades, she captivated audiences with her unforgettable renditions of Lalon’s songs, including “Khachar Bhitar Achin Pakhi” and “Barir Kache Arshinagar.”

Her lifelong dedication to music earned her widespread admiration and the affectionate title of “Lalonkanya”, making her one of Bangladesh’s most treasured cultural icons.
