Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N) —Teachers of Ebtedayee madrasahs have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the government for the nationalisation of their jobs, threatening to besiege the home ministry if their demands are not met within the timeframe.

The announcement was made during their sit-in protest near the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh today (27 January).

Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Dhaka University's Professor Ruhul Amin of the International Relations Department conveyed the decision, according to media reports.
Teachers were protesting today for the ninth consecutive day, demanding official recognition and job nationalisation.

Previously, Kazi Mokhlesur Rahman, chairman of the Ebtedayee Madrasah Teachers Oikyo Jote, said that they would continue until a gazette notification was issued.

After discussions with education ministry officials, he added, "If no decision is made by the government, we will announce a more rigorous course of action,"

During demonstrations yesterday (26 January), police used water cannons and charged batons at protesting teachers at Shahbagh, resulting in injuries to several teachers.

At least five protesters sought treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

However, law enforcement denied allegations of using force.
