From March 5–7, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori made his second formal visit to the Bhasan Char camp, home to nearly 30,000 Rohingya refugees.

Ambassador IWAMA attended several events, including the opening of a library, a UNICEF hand-over ceremony, a Grassroot Grant inauguration ceremony, a school, a multipurpose center, WASH facilities, and a water quality testing laboratory. Along with discussing with the Camp in Charge and Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, he also shared his opinions with UN organizations.

Japan has given more than 220 million USD through international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to different interventions in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char since the major inflow in August 2017. Food aid, healthcare, WASH, housing, safety, and gender mainstreaming were among the services provided.

Ambassador IWAMA stated, "I appreciate UNICEF for arranging my second visit to the Rohingya camp in Bhasan Char. I am observing the ongoing activities in the field." I have seen firsthand the educational setting in which schoolchildren study in the camps, and I hope that many youngsters will be able to realize their dreams thanks to this learning opportunity.

Considering that the crisis occurred more than six years ago and that several situations are occurring in various regions of the world, the international community must continue to pay attention. Japan will keep pursuing a solution for the Rohingya problem.
