DHAKA, April 19, 2025 (V7N) – The National Citizen Party (NCP), formed after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, has called on the interim government to complete essential state reforms and ensure justice for the victims of the July 2024 uprising before holding the next national election.

Speaking to reporters during a break in a meeting with the National Consensus Commission (NCC) at the Parliament’s LD Hall, NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen emphasized that while the party does not support election delays, they believe reforms and justice must come first.

The NCP delegation, led by leaders Nahid Islam, Akhter Hossen, Sarwar Tushar, Samantha Sharmin, Hasnat Abdullah, and Nasiruddin Patwari, presented their views on constitutional reforms and the need for a new constitution that ensures balance of power and democratic governance.

“We’ve agreed with 129 of the 166 reform proposals and expressed observations on others,” said Hasnat Abdullah, highlighting the party’s key focus areas: protection of citizens, peaceful power transfer, and a revision of Article 17.

The meeting was attended by NCC Vice Chairman Prof. Ali Riaz, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.
