Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N) – One of the six babies born earlier today at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has died, hospital and family sources confirmed.
The baby boy passed away around 6 pm at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), just hours after his mother, Mokseda Akhter Priya (23) of Senbagh upazila, Noakhali, delivered six children at DMCH’s gynecology department at around 9 am.
According to family members, three of the newborns were admitted to the NICU at DMCH, while the remaining three were transferred to the NICU of a private hospital.
Earlier, Dr. Abida Sultana, Assistant Professor at DMCH’s Gynecology Unit-1, stated that Priya’s case was not a typical full-term birth but rather a 27-week inviable abortion. Each infant weighed between 800 and 900 grams, and their survival chances remain uncertain.
“Although the babies are under observation, survival at this stage is often difficult,” Dr. Sultana said, while expressing cautious hope for the remaining five.
