DHAKA, Feb 9, (V7N) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday congratulated Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on its historic landslide victory in the election to the House of Representatives.

In a message sent to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Prof Yunus said the decisive outcome reflected the confidence and trust of the Japanese people in her leadership and vision. The message was released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing in the evening.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, and on my own behalf, I extend my warmest congratulations on the historic and landslide victory of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) under your leadership in the election to the House of Representatives held on February 8, 2026,” the message said.

Prof Yunus expressed optimism that Japan would continue to play a constructive role regionally and globally under Prime Minister Takaichi’s leadership, advancing stability and prosperity.

Highlighting the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and Japan, the Chief Adviser said Dhaka attaches the highest importance to its close and trusted relations with Tokyo. He acknowledged Japan’s consistent support for Bangladesh’s development, particularly in the areas of quality infrastructure and connectivity, which he said has made a lasting contribution to the country’s economy and people.

“The government of Bangladesh looks forward to working closely with your administration to further strengthen our partnership, deepen economic and technological cooperation, and advance our shared priorities for mutual benefit,” he added.

Prof Yunus concluded by wishing Prime Minister Takaichi good health and success, and extended his best wishes for the continued peace, progress and well-being of the people of Japan.
