Dhaka, Feb 12, (V7N) – Bangladesh Bank has clarified that it has not imposed any specific restrictions or ceilings on carrying physical cash, amid rising concerns over fund movement during the election period.

The statement followed reports of cash seizures from political activists and growing anxiety among citizens and businesses about the legality of transporting large sums of money during the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday night, Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, said that under standard regulations there is no set limit on how much cash an individual can carry. “Under normal circumstances, Bangladesh Bank does not impose a limit on carrying cash,” he noted.

However, Khan emphasized that the Election Commission (EC) holds ultimate authority during this period. “If the Election Commission issues any specific directives or restrictions to maintain the code of conduct during the election, those rules will take precedence and be strictly applied,” he said.

The clarification aims to reassure the public and business community while underscoring that any restrictions would come directly from the EC, not the central bank.
