TANGAIL, Feb 12 (V7N) - Voting in the 13th National Parliamentary Election is underway across Tangail’s eight constituencies amid what many voters described as an Eid-like festive atmosphere.
Polling began at 7:30 am and will continue uninterrupted until 4:30 pm. The early hours were marked by a peaceful environment, with voters forming disciplined queues to cast their ballots.
A lively scene was observed at all 1,063 polling centres in the district. Since early morning, voters in both urban and rural areas have been arriving in high spirits. The four-day public holiday surrounding the election prompted many professionals and workers to return to their native villages in Tangail, contributing to the strong turnout.
A notable feature of the day has been the significant participation of women voters. At many centres, women outnumbered men in the queues, maintaining patience and discipline while waiting to vote. Observers described their large-scale and orderly presence as a defining aspect of the election in Tangail.
Many voters expressed relief at being able to participate freely in the democratic process after a long gap. They credited the assurances of the Interim Government and the Election Commission for creating a transparent voting environment.
Masud Miah, a businessman who travelled from Manikganj to vote at his home centre in Hugra, said, “I have been unable to cast my vote for 17 years. This time, I did not miss the opportunity. I came early and voted for my chosen candidate. The environment is beautiful and disciplined.”
Karim Miah, another voter, said he joined the queue after hearing that the election would be conducted fairly. “In the past, votes were often cast before polling day began. This time, I wanted to ensure I could cast my own ballot,” he said.
At Hugra Government Primary School centre under Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, Presiding Officer Md. Shoriful Islam reported a steady flow of voters throughout the morning.
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Huq told BSS that polling is proceeding smoothly and peacefully across the district. She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair and neutral election.
All 1,063 polling centres are under CCTV surveillance. A total of 68 Executive Magistrates and 12 Judicial Magistrates are on duty to oversee compliance with electoral laws.
Members of the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deployed throughout the district to maintain law and order.
No untoward incidents had been reported at the time of filing this report. Authorities urged voters to disregard rumours and rely on official information while participating in the election.
