For Bangeli New year (Pahela Baishakh) and Eid vacations, millions of travellers go to Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh.
In addition to charging more rent, hotel and restaurant operators take advantage of the occasion to harass and mistreat guests. To put an end to these anomalies and harassment, the district administration of Cox's Bazar has launched an operation this time.
Following a raid on Sunday afternoon, April 14, the hotel business were given a warning and fined by Executive Magistrate Masood Rana, who oversees the Tourism Cell.
A tourist named Masud said that they came to visit Cox's Bazar with some friends during the Eid Baisakh holiday. However, they said that they have been charged more than other bars. Besides, they claim that quality of service is unacceptable rather than money.
They also said that every year during Eid or Baisakh, there are various warnings to stop tourist harassment. However, they said that it was not closed in any way.
The Executive Magistrate of Tourism Cell, Masud Rana, said that this was done immediately after the complaint of tourist harassment. However, he did not say how much fine was given.
The authorities are saying to keep an eye on the compliance of administration rules on hotel rent and food prices and all related matters.
