Dhaka, Nov 02 (V7N)- BNP Senior Joint Secretary Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi asserted that the current government has merged law, justice, and administration to bolster its authoritarian regime, claiming that Sheikh Hasina has transformed Baksal into a contemporary form.

Rizvi made these remarks during a meeting with former military officials at the BNP's central office in Naya Paltan on Saturday. He stressed the importance of safeguarding independence and sovereignty while advocating for multi-party democracy. “We must advance with these two priorities in mind. Every day, people are killed at the border,” he stated.

He criticized Sheikh Hasina for her perceived submission, arguing that she has not displayed the courage to protest amid ongoing violence at the border. “Those who advocate for democracy in their own country are often either confined to isolation or spend years behind bars,” he said.

Rizvi also commented on the political inclinations of judges during authoritarian rule, noting that it was often difficult to differentiate between former Justice Shamsuddin Manik's affiliations with the Awami League and his position as a Supreme Court judge. “We see no distinction between the two,” he remarked.

He emphasized the need to ensure judicial independence, asserting, “To strengthen democracy, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary are crucial. The judiciary serves as the last refuge for the people.” The meeting included the presence of retired Brigadier General Zahurul Haque, Colonel Touhid Pathan, Colonel Abdul Haque, and Lieutenant Colonel Hasinul Rahman, among others.
