Dhaka, Nov 08 (V7N)- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has condemned the alleged harassment of Asif Nazrul, the interim government’s legal, judicial, and parliamentary affairs advisor, by Awami League supporters in front of Geneva Airport, Switzerland. In a statement issued Friday, Rahman described the incident as an "insolent and unethical" act that disrespects the dignity of the country and its citizens on the international stage.
According to Rahman, the incident occurred Thursday evening as Asif Nazrul was en route to France. He asserted that such behavior by members of the ruling Awami League reflects a broader pattern of political hostility, suggesting that "violent manifestations of fascism" are present both domestically and internationally among Awami League supporters. Rahman contended that Awami League activists abroad, whom he referred to as "exiled followers of Sheikh Hasina's fascism," are exploiting opportunities to intimidate those who align with democratic values.
"The incident with the legal advisor has once again proven that the Awami League remains tied to the authoritarian tactics of chaos, violence, division, and state looting," Rahman stated. He accused the Awami League of lacking respect for democratic values, human rights, and judicial independence, adding that their actions exemplify a "hostility towards democracy," which he considers an ingrained trait of the party.
Rahman further claimed that Sheikh Hasina, despite being outside the country, is still influencing her supporters to act against democratic forces, both at home and abroad. He described the alleged harassment as part of a deeper, widespread strategy by the Awami League to suppress democracy-loving individuals. The BNP leader argued that this conduct reflects a broader “fascist” agenda to undermine Bangladesh’s democratic future and pursue authoritarian control.
Rahman concluded by calling for international accountability, urging the identification and legal action against what he termed "terrorist supporters of Awami fascism" abroad. He pledged that the BNP would work with international legal frameworks to address these incidents and emphasized his condemnation of the alleged harassment against Asif Nazrul, urging solidarity among pro-democracy individuals globally to stand against such actions.
