Savar, August 10 (V7N) — Students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged a protest on Saturday night following the announcement of hall committees by the student wing of the ruling party. Demonstrators demanded an end to all forms of politics within residential halls and called for the immediate dissolution of the newly formed committees.

The protest began with a rally from the university’s Tazuddin Ahmad Hall, where students marched through all residential halls chanting slogans such as:

“Direct action against hall politics!”

“Smash the dark hand of hall politics!”

“One, two, three, four—hall politics no more!”

The march culminated in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence, where the students presented six specific demands to Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan. The nature of these demands was not disclosed.

Prof. Ahsan addressed the students directly, acknowledging their concerns and listening to their grievances. A spokesperson for the students said the protest reflects growing frustration over political influence in residential life and a desire for campus neutrality and safety.

The issue of student politics within university dormitories has long been a contentious topic in Bangladesh, with critics arguing it often leads to violence, coercion, and disruption of academic life. This latest demonstration underscores rising student demand for apolitical living environments within their halls.
