Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman pledged that if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is elected to power, it will prioritize people’s empowerment and participation in governance, contrasting sharply with what he described as the "corrupt and oppressive" policies under Sheikh Hasina's administration.

Rahman criticized the current government, claiming that its focus on development was marred by corruption and authoritarianism. "In contrast," he stated, "BNP’s governance will center on rule of law, human rights, and freedom of expression, in alignment with our 31-point reform outline."

He made these comments virtually as the chief guest at a Dhaka city hotel event, chaired by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, titled “An Outline for Reformation of State Structure: Reforms in Light of the 31 Points.”

Highlighting BNP’s vision, Rahman emphasized the party's commitment to building a future for Bangladesh free from fascism and dictatorship. "We envision an independent, sovereign nation where people's rights and freedoms are safeguarded by an accountable and democratically elected government," he said, adding that this structure would prevent abuses of power from the highest state offices down to the local level.

The event saw attendance from leaders across democratic political parties, BNP’s National Standing Committee members, diplomats, civil society representatives, and media professionals.
