Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) – Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon, on Saturday said that fascists and their domestic and foreign allies are still active.
He emphasized that political parties must remain united to build a democratic Bangladesh.
Speaking at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur, Dhaka, after paying respects on behalf of the Ganosamhati Andolon, Zonayed Saki made these statements.
He alleged that these groups are taking refuge in India and, with the assistance of Indian media, government, and political parties, are trying to destabilize Bangladesh.
He said they are attempting to portray Bangladesh negatively to the international community with baseless and false narratives.
Zonayed Saki added: “Over the past 53 years, many struggles have taken place. However, issues like changing the constitutional power structure, reforming state institutions to balance power, and amending laws have not been central to our political movements.”
Highlighting the key aspects of the current mass uprising, Saki said that this state system must be abolished, institutions and laws must be reformed, and a democratic constitution must be established.
He emphasized the need for accountability of those in power to the people, stressing the importance of building such a framework.
“We hope an interim government will pave the way for establishing a democratic Bangladesh in line with the people's aspirations,” he added.
Zonayed Saki further said: “The bloody liberation struggle of 1971 was driven by the people’s aspirations for equality, human dignity, and social justice. The state that was envisioned was one that would ensure equality, human dignity, and social justice for its citizens. But over the past 53 years, we have seen these aspirations unfulfilled; instead, Bangladesh has often moved in the opposite direction.”
Finally, Saki accused Sheikh Hasina's leadership of imposing a fascist state system on the people of Bangladesh.
