Comilla, Feb 21 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for election reforms and a clear roadmap, stating that a government backed by the people will emerge if elections are held soon.
Speaking at a BNP rally in Laksam, Comilla on Thursday (February 20), Mirza Fakhrul criticized the current administration, saying, "No matter how many big names are in the current government, the people are not behind them."
Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the need for electoral reforms to restore public confidence. He urged the government to present a roadmap for elections, saying, "If the people know this, it will calm the situation. Right now, there is widespread unrest."
He accused certain groups abroad of trying to create anarchy and instability in Bangladesh but assured that BNP does not want disorder. "BNP wants a successful government, not chaos," he said.
Highlighting BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point proposal, Mirza Fakhrul stated that reforms should focus on solving people's daily struggles, rather than political rhetoric. "People don’t understand reforms, they understand two meals a day," he said.
Addressing other political parties, he warned against statements that could damage unity, urging collective efforts to restore democracy.
Mirza Fakhrul reaffirmed that BNP will return to power through the people's votes, ensuring that the nation’s future is not put at risk. He also warned against any attempt to distort history, saying, "No one will accept it if you mock 1971 like 2024."
The statement comes at a time of growing political tension in Bangladesh, with increasing demands for electoral transparency and political accountability.
