Meeting with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus
Meanwhile, Jamaat's Central Propaganda and Media Secretary, Matiur Rahman Akand, issued another press release announcing that a meeting had taken place between Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to discuss the overall situation in the country.
- Following this meeting, Jamaat decided to cancel its planned sit-in protest in front of the Chief Advisor’s office on Tuesday (February 25).
- The decision to postpone both programs was made after Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Dr. Shafiqur Rahman met on Monday afternoon (February 24).
Background of the Protest
Jamaat had initially called for a public sit-in in front of the Chief Advisor's office on February 25, demanding the release of Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, who has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman had also posted a Facebook status announcing his voluntary arrest on the same day.
The postponement of the program coincides with the government’s declaration of February 25 as National Martyr's Day.
