Dhaka, Feb 25 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticized the demand by some political parties for local elections before national elections, calling it a "new game" designed to extend the current government’s rule.

Speaking at a BNP rally organized by Dhaka District BNP at Jatrabari Ground in Dhamrai Upazila on Monday (February 24) afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul warned that if the government is not accountable to the people, it cannot conduct fair local elections, leading to chaos and anarchy.

BNP's Stand on the Current Government

  • The BNP Secretary General stated that the current government was brought to power by the students, the public, and political parties.
  • BNP had hoped that the government would restore voting rights and implement necessary reforms quickly, but instead, a new political maneuver has begun.
  • He alleged that some people want to delay elections to stay in power longer and even form a new party.

Concerns Over Political Stability

  • Mirza Fakhrul questioned whether the government was knowingly pushing the country toward civil war.
  • He emphasized that BNP will not allow the country to fall into further anarchy and destruction.
  • He also criticized those speaking against BNP, reminding them of the party’s 15 years of struggle and sacrifices.

Allegations Against the Government

Fakhrul claimed that 83 cases were filed against Tarique Rahman to prevent him from returning to Bangladesh. He expressed frustration that BNP leaders still have to face legal battles despite their sacrifices.

Regarding the vandalism of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house at No. 32 Dhanmondi, Fakhrul alleged that it was the result of Sheikh Hasina’s political injustices.

  • He accused the Prime Minister of selling out the country, distorting history, and trying to destroy religion.
  • He also mocked Sheikh Hasina's emotional reaction, saying, "You don’t understand what your crime is? You have destroyed the rights of an entire nation."
