Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – Speaking at the inaugural event of the Jatiya Nagorik Party, Hasnat Abdullah expressed his determination to bury dynastic politics in Bangladesh.
The inauguration ceremony of the Jatiya Nagorik Party commenced at 4:20pm on Friday, at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
During his speech at the event, Hasnat Abdullah said: "We want to ensure that dynastic politics has been buried in this country. In this country, a blacksmith’s son will become the prime minister, a potter’s son will become the prime minister. Leadership will emerge based on merit."
Expressing his commitment to building a better Bangladesh, Hasnat Abdullah added: "There will be no divisions among us in this country. Political tolerance will prevail, freedom of expression will be upheld, and dissenting opinions will be respected."
He pointed out that even after so many years of independence, the state has not been properly developed, saying: "We have failed to establish a functional bureaucracy. We have not been able to create an independent police force or an independent judiciary."
Criticizing the inefficiency of institutions, the leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement emphasized their aim to make Bangladesh’s institutions fully functional.
Regarding foreign relations, Hasnat Abdullah said: "We will maintain friendly relations with other countries, but we will not follow their prescriptions."
He further added: "Who will enter the Gonobhaban will be determined by Bangladesh, not by India. Who will go to Parliament will be decided by the hardworking people of Bangladesh."
Hasnat, the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, is set to assume the role of chief organizer (Southern Region) in this newly formed party.
