Dhaka, Mar 18 (V7N) – The People’s Rights Council has demanded the resignation of newly appointed Information Advisor Mahfuz Alam and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, expressing concerns about the fairness of national elections under the interim government.
The party’s spokesperson, Faruk Hasan, raised these concerns at a press conference held at the People’s Rights Council office on Tuesday afternoon.
Faruk Hasan criticized the interim government, claiming it is showing flexibility towards the Awami League. "The people had expectations from this government, but it seems there is an attempt to rehabilitate the Awami League from behind," he said.
He further questioned the government’s commitment to reforms, stating, "What does ‘a little reform’ or ‘a lot of reform’ mean? The government has not provided a clear message. A government with a single-layer structure cannot be called inclusive. There are serious concerns about the impartiality of the upcoming elections under this administration."
Rashed Khan, General Secretary of the People’s Rights Council, reiterated their demand for a neutral caretaker government, suggesting that it should be led by Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus instead of the current interim administration.
At the press conference, party leaders also criticized Press Secretary Shafiqul Islam’s recent statements and discussed issues related to reforms, governance, and national elections.
The People’s Rights Council has previously expressed skepticism regarding the interim government’s ability to conduct free and fair elections, and their latest statements further highlight growing political tensions in the country.
